NCFlex 2020 Open Enrollment

Important News for 2020

NEW Dental Classic Option Plan

  • This year NCFlex is adding the Dental Classic Option plan. The new option will offer some of the same benefits as the High Option plan such as crowns, dentures, bridges and orthodontic services for dependent children up to age 19, with a lower out-of-pocket maximum and a lower premium than the High Option. With High Option rates increasing, the Classic Option is a good alternative for those that want coverage for Major services but don’t need the highest level of coverage.
  • For High Option participants, if you want to continue coverage for 2020, you must re-enroll during Annual Enrollment. Otherwise, you will automatically be enrolled in the NEW Classic Option Plan for 2020.

Remember to Re-enroll in the FSAs

  • You must re-enroll in the Health Care and/or Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) each year to make contributions in the upcoming plan year. If you do not re-enroll, your current contributions end on Dec. 31, 2019.
  • If you participated in the Health Care FSA in 2019, up to $500 of the unused account balance from 2019 will roll over to pay eligible expenses in 2020. If you do not re-enroll in the FSA for 2020, you cannot make new contributions, but you may still use these rollover funds. The new yearly amount for the Health Care FSA for 2020 is $2,700.

No EOI Required for Cancer and Specified Disease Coverage

  • For 2020, you can enroll in or increase Cancer and Specified Disease Insurance without having to provide Evidence of Insurability (EOI).

NEW Disability Plan for 2020*

  • Starting on January 1, 2020, NCFlex will be offering disability insurance for the first time through Standard Insurance Company (The Standard). This is a combined plan and includes Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD)  insurance. For details on these plans, see the Disability booklet on oshr.nc.gov/stateemployee-resources/benefits/ncflex/disability-plan.  *Employees of the University of North Carolina System and any constituent institution are not eligible for this plan.  Check with your HR representative for more information.
