Raleigh, N.C. - A new leader is taking charge of The Health and Safety Leadership Team today.

Office of State Human Resources Director Neal Alexander welcomes Department of Commerce Sec. John Skvarla as the new Chair of the Leadership Team. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Sec. Rick Brajer will serve as Vice-Chair.

Sec. Skvarla takes the reins from Department of Public Safety Sec. Frank Perry, who served one year as Chair and two years as Vice-Chair.

“Sec. Perry has done a tremendous job guiding the Leadership Team to reduce workplace injuries in North Carolina State Government,” said Director Alexander.

“When Governor McCrory established the Leadership Team in 2013, our goal was to reduce workplace injuries by 10-percent. We’ve exceeded that goal and have had a 14% reduction in workplace injuries since 2013. Under Sec. Skvarla’s leadership we hope to continue that trend.”

Two new members were welcomed to the Leadership Team: Jonathon Gillikin from the Department of Administration and Chris Petoletti from the Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. They replace Martin Sinicki, Safety Director from DHHS and Michael Conner, Safety Director from the Department of Environmental Quality.

Members of the Leadership Team are tasked with measuring the safety performance of state government agencies and creating an effective Health and Safety program across state government.
