They’re motivated to advance in their careers, driven to bring innovation and efficiency to their organizations, and maybe a little relieved to finally be done, after spending the last 16 months participating in the NC Certified Public Manager® Program (CPM).
Today, 38 individuals enrolled in the CPM Program graduated. Their ceremony was held inside the NC Museum of History auditorium.
“This program, accredited by the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium, trains and develop managers for meeting the challenges of today’s public organizations,” said Paula Woodhouse, Interim Director of the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR). “The management and leadership skills they acquired will help them better serve the people of North Carolina.”
The graduates come from across North Carolina state and local government organizations, in agencies such as the Departments of Transportation, Department of Labor, the City of Durham and many others. (See list of the agencies, as well as the graduates below).
“The benefits of the program are far reaching,” said Kathi Parker, CPM Program Director. “Managers have the opportunity to learn current best practices and they gain an enhanced set of skills for career advancement.”
This is the 39th class to complete the program. To graduate, participants must complete 300 hours of course work and a service delivery improvement project within their own organization.
The NC Certified Public Manager® Program was established to enhance the effectiveness of public sector organizations across our state by developing the leadership capabilities of mid-level managers. More than 2,200 mid-level managers across NC state government have completed the program since it began in 1981.
Applications for the next CPM class (which starts in July 2017) will be available beginning in November. To learn more about the NC Certified Public Manager® Program, visit OSHR’s website.
