WHO: OSHR Director Barbara Gibson will deliver more than two dozen boxes of school supplies to students of Burgaw Elementary School, where Hurricane Florence caused considerable damage and temporarily displaced hundreds of students and dozens of staff in September 2018.

WHAT: Governor Roy Cooper called upon state employees and communities to donate school supplies to help teachers and students prepare for a successful school year. Teachers typically spend $500 or more each year of their own money to outfit their classroom and have enough supplies to share with students in need.

WHEN: 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28. Following a tour of the facility with Dr. Steven Hill, Superintendent of Pender County Schools, and Burgaw Elementary Principal Stephen Buchanan, Gibson will share a favorite children’s book when she reads to young students.

WHERE: Burgaw Elementary School, 400 N. Wright St., Burgaw, NC 28425; phone: 910-259-0145
