Staci Meyer

State Human Resources Director

Staci Meyer was appointed Director of the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) in January 2025 after more than three decades of service to the people of North Carolina. As Director, she leads the agency responsible for human resources practices and oversight for more than 70,000 state employees. Her experience as a longtime state employee drives her commitment to modernizing and simplifying HR across state government, making it easier for people to begin and grow their careers in public service.

Meyer has served North Carolina since 1991, beginning her career as a law clerk to the Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. That same year, she joined the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, where she spent 15 years representing the state in a wide range of civil and criminal matters.

In 2004, Meyer became Chief Deputy Secretary and General Counsel at the predecessor agency to the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR), later serving as acting Secretary. From 2009 to 2013, she was Commissioner and then Chair of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, reviewing workers’ compensation and tort claims cases.

She returned to the Attorney General’s Office in 2013 before rejoining DNCR as Deputy Secretary of Arts and Administration (2017–2021) and then as Chief Deputy Secretary (2021–2024).

Meyer earned her undergraduate degree from Clemson University and her law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She lives in Raleigh with her husband and is the proud mother of a young adult daughter.
