Governor Stein signs Executive Order 33: Protecting North Carolinians Through Stronger Behavioral Health and Criminal Justice System

Yesterday, Governor Stein signed Executive Order No. 33: Protecting North Carolinians Through Stronger Behavioral Health and Criminal Justice System to improve behavioral health care and public safety in North Carolina.  

Executive Order 33 directs the N.C. Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) to assist three state agencies – Department of Adult Correction (DAC), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and Department of Public Safety (DPS) in expanding recruitment, improving retention, and addressing staffing shortages critical to behavioral health and public safety.

State Human Resources Director Meyer joined Governor Stein for the signing of the Executive Order, along with Kelly Crosbie, NCDHHS’ Director of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services; Secretary of Public Safety Jeff Smythe; and Secretary of Adult Correction Leslie Dismukes.
