Applications Systems Analyst I

Class Concept

This is technical and analytical work in developing, designing, configuring, scripting, and/or supporting applications for the business, research, and/or instructional functions of clients. This role develops solutions using programming expertise for day-to-day problems to include maintenance, modification, or development of complex inter-related applications/solutions. Duties include client needs assessment as well as evaluating hardware availability and software requirements. Positions in this class work either as entry level professional applications or software developers or with quality assurance and applications and software testing. Positions coordinate and direct computer systems and application design and development. Positions in this class are also required to perform requirements gathering and provide detailed documentation of work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge in the area of application development and system integration
  • Thorough knowledge of assigned data and the use of its systems via developing thorough test plans/scenarios
  • Demonstrated skills in working with enterprise systems and familiarity with best business practices related to systems
  • Basic knowledge of security protocols for systems utilized
  • Basic knowledge of the current architecture of systems and information to troubleshoot problems
  • Basic knowledge of the business functions and system needs of unit to develop working specifications for software application solutions
  • Ability to manage timelines, financial resources, and the activities of others to achieve success and to monitor project progress and provide updates to managers
  • Demonstrated skills in the entire development process including specification, workflow analysis, workflow diagrams, data modeling, documentation, and quality assurance
  • Demonstrated ability to assess user needs through discussion with customer conveying technical information to client and promote understanding of relevant issues

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution, or Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in business application consulting or development, or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in business application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
