This role provides technical and strategic oversight and management. Work involves providing for the effective and efficient storage retrieval customization and archiving of data spanning a university or agency by managing multiple sets of data to assure an integrated data base system for all users. Work includes a strong consultative role with application developers and computer center management to assure that the conceptual and design phases of new systems applications are consistent with the database software format. Maintains data integrity as maintenance and modification projects to existing applications are undertaken. Work involves the integration of large and functionally independent computer systems with one another through the use of shareable data elements. Distinguished from the Database Manager I level by the size and complexity of the database and the technology used to support the database functionality.

Ability to interpret complex financial and operational reports and explain complex business processes and technological functions and dynamics to persuade or convince policy-making bodies of the appropriate resource and technology for automated solutions.
Ability to determine budget needs and recommend, with significant influence, priorities based on program mission, costs, and projected revenues; has authority for significant decisions on fund transfers.
Ability to demonstrate vision and ability to proactively plan, implement, and forecast for organizational and/or enterprise success.
Ability to evaluate organizational readiness and capacity for change and adjust accordingly.
Ability to continuously refine goals to ensure the use of the most effective technology.

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive technical experience including three years in a supervisory capacity; or Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive technical experience including three years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
