Class Concept

This is unskilled work in the operation of heavy-duty washing machines, extractors, tumblers, and related equipment in an institutional Laundry. Work requires limited judgement in correctly identifying and weighing, and/or for the proper loading and operation of a variety of laundry machines. Work is reviewed by a supervisor to assure that proper methods are followed, that work produced meets acceptable standards, and that production schedules are met.

Recruitment Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of laundry processes.
  • Skill in the operation of washing equipment.
  • Ability to operate machinery per safety guidelines.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor for considerable periods of time.
  • Ability to recognize and report malfunctioning of machinery.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to identify, mark, and grade laundry items according to a standard system.

Minimum Education and Experience

Education and/or experience in a commercial or institutional laundry that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade.
