Class Concept

This is professional work in conducting field crops, horticultural crops, soil, plants, land management, and/or animal experiments in agricultural research. Employees plan, develop, conduct and evaluate scientific research projects. Employees understand the context and implications of the research in order to apply and interpret theoretical knowledge necessary to conduct research in one or more scientific disciplines. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to: project planning, experimental design, developing methodology, conducting procedures, modifying procedures as needed, data collection and analysis, laboratory management, project management, preparing publications and reports, and communication and instruction. Work may involve the training and supervision of staff. Work may include other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of the scientific, experimental, and research theory applicable to the assigned program area.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of scientific research.
  • Ability to plan, evaluate, and interpret research methods and data. Ability to supervise or oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis and interpret data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree preferably related to the assigned program area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
