Park Rangers at the II level serve as lead field officers statewide in a law enforcement operation in the State Parks Division having statewide and/or special jurisdiction charged with enforcing the relevant laws of the State of North Carolina. Park Rangers have full law enforcement authority in the assigned area with a focus on patrol activities to deter and detect violations but may participate in criminal investigations. Park Rangers II's perform a variety of tasks in areas including supervising staff and volunteers, ensuring visitor safety and protection and compliance to park regulations by monitoring boundaries for trespassing & poaching. Park Rangers are responsible for providing first responder and search & rescue assistance, patrolling roads, campgrounds and other areas, developing and conducting educational programs and management of the Parks' natural and cultural resources. Employees make arrests, issue citations, apprehend violators, obtain evidence and testify in court. Employees may act on behalf of the Park Superintendent in their absence. Must live in on-site residence where available.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the requirements to obtain a search warrant, warrant issuance process, crime scene management, fingerprint lifting tools and techniques, standard law enforcement equipment, its care, and safe use according to Department Policy.
Working knowledge of criminal statutes, case law for initial and follow up investigations, court process and ability to clearly and concisely present evidence.
Ability to utilize technical and professional information to facilitate protection and safety of persons, state and personal property.
Ability to utilize a methodical and logical approach to investigate and enforce criminal laws, state park rules and regulations.
Ability to use proper radio procedures in accordance with department regulations (ex. official 10code list, clearance codes, and signal codes).
Ability of operation and basic care of small engines (i.e., lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws and/or backpack blowers).
Ability to relate to individuals and community groups and plan and conduct community programs.
Ability to communicate effectively through interpersonal interactions and written and ability to recognize community problems..
Ability to maintain CPR, First Aid and other required certifications.
Must demonstrate a willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree preferably in Parks and Recreation and/or Natural Science from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
