Work in this class involves the nutritional care for patients, both inpatient and outpatient clinics, at state facilities and hospitals. Some of the patients require highly specialized dietary management for acute or chronic conditions—renal dialysis, substance abuse, intensive care, etc. Work performance is applied science and art of human nutrition in selection of foods or their substitutes for boy nourishment and health. Role performs nutrition assessment, development and implementation of care plans, and collaboration with attending Physicians. Staff in this class often participate in nutrition courses for medical students and supervision of graduate students in dietetics during internships. Position may be the only professional Dietician at the location or may report to a Food Service Director.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the currently accepted principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics
Thorough knowledge of diet therapy and disease
Basic knowledge of current trends and professional practices in clinical dietetics
Ability to assess, design, and implement nutritional care plans for individuals
Skills in teaching, diet counseling and communicating for patient education
Ability to effectively manage and communicate with a group of subordinates
Ability to evaluate and direct the work of subordinates and maintain good working relationships
Minimum Education and Experience
Master's degree in foods and nutrition or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); or Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and two years of experience in a clinical dietary setting.
