Clinical Dietitian Supervisor

Class Concept

Work in this class involves the supervision, coordination, administration, and management of Clinical Dietetics at a hospital or developmental center. Work includes planning, developing, coordinating and administering services for nutritional care of hospitalized patients provided by a staff of registered dietitians and dietetic technicians. Position may also prepare nutritional assessments for an assigned patient population, provide training for the dietary staff, serve as preceptor for dietetic trainees, and provide in service training/consultation for the medical treatment team as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the accepted principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics
  • Thorough knowledge of diet therapy and disease
  • Thorough knowledge of current trends and professional practices in clinical dietetics
  • Ability to assess, design, and implement nutritional care plans for individuals
  • Ability to effectively manage and communicate with a group of subordinates
  • Intermediate knowledge of food sanitation principles and methods of maintaining such standards in an institutional kitchen
  • Ability to evaluate and direct the work of subordinates and maintain good working relationships

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); or Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and two years of experience in dietary in a clinical setting.
