Class Concept

This is consultative work in planning, developing, coordinating, and administering a variety of physical therapy activities in a regional public health program of physical therapy or in providing consultation to physical therapy providers and beneficiaries with regard to physical therapy services covered by Medicaid and NCHC programs. Employee is responsible for the development, implementation, and/or maintenance of physical therapy programs in a region of the State or is responsible for providing expertise and guidance related to physical therapy and related therapies in the administration of policies and procedures for Medicaid programs and services. Work includes: interpreting section goals and activities of the physical therapy aspects of health programs to other regional public health consultant team members and local communities; administering physical therapy treatments in the home and local health department clinics; and participating in the planning and implementation of in-service training programs for local health personnel. Work may also include participation in teaching programs as related to public health physical therapy to student interns. Recruitment Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of public health principles and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of physical therapy principles, techniques, modalities, and their proper application.
  • Ability to teach physical therapy treatments to patients, patients' families, nurses, and other medical personnel.
  • Ability to prepare and evaluate reports.
  • Ability to communicate with medical, nursing rehabilitative, and other professional personnel and coordinate physical therapy activities of a regional program.

Minimum Education and Experience

Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the State of North Carolina and three years of experience as a physical therapist.
