Work in this class involves the performance of semi-skilled duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems, and may include the advanced phase of on-the-job training. Assignments are received from a higher level plumber or supervisor, and position will be guided in the principles and techniques until it masters the work involved. The degree of supervision received will vary depending upon the variety of assignments and the person's aptitude and ability to acquire the skills required. Work will be reviewed by a higher level plumber or supervisor to determine that the employee understands the basic principles and techniques, as well as for the satisfactory completion of assignments.
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of the techniques, methods, and tools of the plumbing trade. Some skill in the performance of duties related to the plumbing trade.
Ability to use tools associated with the plumbing trade.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Physical strength sufficient to work at heavy manual labor for considerable periods of time.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air, water, gas or waste disposal systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
