Position performs journey duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems. Routine work assignments are in the nature of location of needed repair, and assignments involving work of special or unusual nature are accompanied by specific instructions. The incumbent exercises considerable independence in performance of routine work, but unprecedented assignments are usually discussed with or supervised by a foreman. Work is reviewed by foreman through inspection of work in progress and on the basis of satisfactory operation of equipment repaired or installed.
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.
Working knowledge of the safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in the performance of plumbing work.
Ability to assume responsibility of lead worker in the performance of plumbing repair and installation.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission
