This is statewide supervisory level work for the Industrial Hygiene Inspectors, the Environmental Technicians, and management support staff in the Department of Public Health Hazards Control Unit. This incumbent supervises the staff within the Asbestos Hazard Management Program and the LeadBased Paint Hazard Management Programs who are responsible for conducting inspections of demolitions, asbestos and lead-based paint abatement projects, inspections of schools and renovation projects across the state. The oversight provided includes administrative responsibilities as well as hands on sight inspections.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable direct experience in industrial hygiene, including knowledge regarding occupational and environmental controls, especially asbestos and lead-based paint hazards.
Considerable knowledge of applicable NC statutes and rules, EPA regulations, OSHA Standards and other state regulations associated with asbestos and lead-based paint.
The duties of this position require travel, sometimes on short notice. Individual must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including respirators, and the ability to enter confined spaces, and lift a least 40 pounds.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, environmental sciences, industrial hygiene or an equivalent curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution plus five years of progressive experience in occupational safety and health inspections including two years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
