Positions in this classification enforce the safety regulation of the natural gas pipeline industry following the federal and state safety regulations in an area of the state pertaining to the engineering, construction, extension, operation, and maintenance of natural gas pipeline systems and facilities and consult with gas pipeline system operators on maintenance, construction, and operational problems. In addition, employees are responsible for conducting investigations of accidents involving gas pipeline or facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Gas Pipeline Safety Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil, corrosion, and mechanical engineering as applied to the construction and operation of natural gas pipeline systems and facilities.
Working knowledge of gas pressure-volume-temperature relationships.
Working knowledge of the maintenance requirements of natural gas pipeline systems.
Working knowledge of the materials, equipment, and parts used in natural gas pipeline construction.
Working knowledge of the techniques used in gas pipeline construction. Working knowledge of the general layout of a gas pipeline system.
Ability to gather and analyze technical information.
Ability to prepare technical reports.
Ability to explain and defend technical decisions to laymen and other technical personnel.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related engineering field from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate's degree in construction management, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology, civil engineering technology, or related engineering technology field from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive experience in the operation or maintenance of gas pipeline systems; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of progressive experience four (4) years of progressive experience in the operation or maintenance of gas pipeline systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
