This is professional work involving the supervision and coordination of all dental services in a state institution. Positions may supervise other dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants; and may also coordinate the training of dental students, dental hygienists, and dental assistants, which are assigned for training purposes from various educational institutions. Work includes the development and coordination of the institution's dental health program and a significant amount of clinical work. Work is performed with professional independence under the administrative supervision of the institution administrator.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of dental practices and developments in the field
Knowledge of the dental needs of the population being served
Ability to supervise assigned personnel
Ability to provide training, including lectures, for dental students and dental hygiene students
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, departmental personnel, and other professional groups, both in and outside of the institution
Minimum Education and Experience
Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of North Carolina and two years of experience in the general practice of dentistry.
