Understanding Temporary Employment Requirements

11-Month Limit and 31-Day "Break"

Per N.C.G.S & 126-6.3(a1), temporary employees of Cabinet and Council of State agencies shall not work more than 11 consecutive months without an approved exception.

Required Use of TS by Cabinet Agencies

G.S. & 126-6.3(a) requires Cabinet agencies to employ their temporaries through Temporary Solutions unless the work is IT-related or an approved exception exists.

Separation Notifications

G.S. & 126-6.3(a5) requires Cabinet and Council of State agencies to notify Temporary Solutions whenever any temporary separates for their 31-Day "break" due to the 11-month limit.

Temporary Solutions Responsibilities

G.S. & 126-6.3 requires Temporary Solutions to perform compliance monitoring and report quarterly on the results. Learn more about how we support state agencies with compliance.
