Class Concept

The IT Architect Manager provides direction to and manages a group of IT architects that are responsible for IT technical strategy as the top design resource for projects focused on an agency or enterprise-wide scope. The role oversees business plans, strategic direction, and standards for procedures and policies as they relate to IT systems architecture. The role works with IT teams to ensure application requirements are understood and translated to technical solutions. Collaborates with staff, users, and senior management on establishing business goals; reviewing new and existing IT projects, system designs and plans, and conducting research on emerging technologies to support changes in infrastructure. Designs, develops, and supervises implementation of test plans and report findings and makes recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of IT governance and operations.
• Working knowledge of the business methodologies for which the enterprise architecture is being developed.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Direct involvement in the development of policies, standards and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation, and use of Information Technology within the enterprise.
• Demonstrated experience in utilizing tactical thinking/decision making skills as well as strategic thinking/decision making.
• Demonstrated experience in determining and developing architectural approaches and solutions, conducting business reviews, and developing recommendations of how to proceed with the applications.
• Interpersonal and leadership skills – leadership, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive experience in all areas of information technology architectural components, interfaces and their applications or related work; or Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and eight years of progressive experience in all areas of information technology architectural components, interfaces and their applications or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
