Work in this class involves providing intensive social work services in serious and complicated cases which require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques. Services are provided in a variety of settings, including neuro-medical centers, child care facilities, Head Start/Early Head Start programs, home environments, correctional facilities, juvenile justice facilities, and state institutions. Clients/patients have specialized dementia, mental health, substance abuse and/or developmental disability issues. Work may involve providing in-depth assessment of individuals and family dynamics and needs, assessment, intervention and treatment of patients/clients and or families. Work may involve training and modeling to direct care staff or families. Employees work with patients/clients and families to develop treatment plans and discharge plans into the community. The discharge planning involves coordinating with a variety of community based service providers.
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of a wide range of behavioral, and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory.
Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community.
Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework and group work.
Skill in establishing rapport with the client and/or family and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial aspects of clients' problems.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; or Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; or Master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; or Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
