Class Concept
Employees provide supervisory technical services and logistics needed to support firefighting Operations. Employees oversee the activities of firefighters through the promotion of efficient Fire Prevention programs. Work involves advanced level performance of tasks designed to protect life, aircrafts, buildings, and systems during emergencies and/or natural disasters. This position assigns firefighters to jobs at strategic locations to facilitate rescue of persons and maximize application of extinguishing agents. Assesses nature and extent of fires, condition of buildings, aircrafts, and potential danger to adjacent buildings, and water supply status to determine crew or company requirements. This position coordinates the development and implementation of facility fire prevention education, operating instructions, policies and fiscal procedures applicable to fire protection. The position can make changes in methods, procedures, workflow, and assignments may be adjusted to meet critical demands
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of principles and methods for firefighting techniques, policies and procedures, Air Force, Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Air National Guard, and State regulations.
Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, Automatic Fire Detection, Suppression Systems and airport design, aircraft rescue methods, and their practices.
Working knowledge of managerial, supervisory and leadership methods.
Skill in directing firefighting, rescue and emergency medical operations.
Skill in reading, preparing and interpreting memoranda, operating instructions, directives and reports communicating clearly and effectively.
Ability to coordinate other fire officers and agencies, outside the agency, to procure firefighting supplies and equipment needed at an emergency scene.
Ability to manage subordinates in accordance with all laws, instructions, directives, operating instructions, and local policies.
Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions in emergency situations.
Ability to coordinate facility inspection schedules.
Ability to maintain EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Certification and Firefighter Level II Certification.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of firefighter experience with a military or organized civilian airport fire department: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
Basic Level ARFF (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting) Certification as issued by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE).
