Positions in this class manage field or support operations in a statewide law enforcement program or similar operation having statewide and/or special jurisdiction charged with enforcing the relevant laws of the State of North Carolina. Positions have full law enforcement authority in the assigned area with a focus on patrol activities to deter and detect violations or focus on investigation of alleged or suspected criminal violations. Positions in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services assist the Law Enforcement Manager with planning and organizing operations, and resource allocation. Positions maintain appropriate relations with local and other State law enforcement agencies.
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge and expertise in law enforcement concepts, practices and theories used in the technical specialty area assigned in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Considerable knowledge of forest fire laws, stream obstruction laws, and laws pertaining to fighting forest fires and vandalism.
Working knowledge to effectively plan, direct, manage, and supervise day-to-day programs and/or multiple complex programs.
Ability to oversee the work performed in the unit, district, or section.
Ability to organize and follow complex and detailed technical procedures.
Ability to assist with the development and implementation of program plans.
Ability to provide consultation on issues and casework requiring creation of custom solutions.
Ability to consult with higher-level management to discuss alternative solutions to problems.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive law enforcement experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
