Class Concept

Work in this class involves the supervision of a security police staff at tile North Carolina Air National Guard headquarters. Employees supervise security guards on a rotational shift and are subject to recall to duty in emergencies. Work includes assuring the designated security posts are staffed and verifying that controlled and restricted areas are protected. Duties also involve coordination with a variety of law enforcement and federal security personnel. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief of Security Police and reviewed for adherence to established guidelines and procedures and effectiveness of the security operation.

Recruitment Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of Air Force regulations and procedures and State and Federal laws that apply to the security and protection of the military information and property on location at the NCANG headquarters.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Air National Guard base and Douglas Airport Authority security and emergency response plans.
  • Working knowledge and skill in the use of different types of weapons.
  • Basic knowledge of basic fire prevention and control techniques.
  • Ability to train and supervise the security staff in methods and procedures of protecting the military resources located at the base.
  • Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain records and reports.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in military security and police work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

Certification (as applicable) under North Carolina, Federal Government, and Air Force laws or regulations as military security police.
