Employees work in weigh stations located across the state. Employees are responsible for detection of violations of size and weight including compliance with the vehicle registration requirements, international fuel tax agreement, international registration plan, state and local fuel tax laws, commercial driver's license compliance, and insurance requirements based on federal and state laws.
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of federal and state operations laws pertaining to the weight and safety of motor vehicles.
Working knowledge of the reciprocal agreements with other states regarding vehicle weight and safety.
Ability to interpret hazardous material regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff.
Ability to perform basic math skills.
Ability to operate stationary mobile scales and interpret results according to state and federal laws.
Ability to use a computer and prepare various reports.
Ability to process monetary collections.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of work experience in dealing with the public, which requires the use of some basic mathematical skills.
Necessary Special Requirements
Must successfully complete the Weigh Station Operator Basic School and Field Training Program within one year of hire.
