This is skilled work in assisting occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants implement activities and programs to improve psychosocial, physical, sensory, and developmental functioning at the level of performance normal for the individual's stage of development, in a State institution, hospital, or a local agency. Employees assist in implementing the treatment programs designed by the occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant to gain or re-gain physical, psychosocial, or developmental functioning. Responsibilities performed include, but not limited to taking off /putting on routine adaptive devices and splints, conducting activities of daily living programs and activity programs, range-of-motion programs, monitoring of adaptive feeding devices and sensory devices on patient units and patient transport. Work requires employees to observe and report the individual's response to treatment and is performed under the direct supervision of an occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant.
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of occupational therapy principles, techniques, methods, modalities, and their proper application.
Basic knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology, and skeletal biomechanics.
Knowledge of basic computer skills.
Skill in removal and application of orthotic and/or splinting devices and/or equipment.
Skill in general craft techniques for enhancement of physical and psychiatric functioning.
Ability to perform light to moderate physical exertion.
Ability to report progress of patient through oral and written communications to Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Ability to work effectively with patients of various ages, mental competence, and physical disabilities.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of health care experience in occupational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
