Electrician II

Class Concept

This is journeyman level work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work assignments are received from a foreman or other supervisor and are performed independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices. New or unusual work orders are usually accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work is reviewed through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders and is further evaluated on the basis of the continued workability of equipment, systems, and fixtures repaired or installed.

Recruitment Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.
  • Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to train apprentices in the electrical trade.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission
