Maintenance/Construction Technician I

Job Code: 32000813
Salary Grade: NC03
Revision Date: 06/2018

Class Concept

Positions perform a variety of semiskilled tasks in at least two trades in connection with the maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings and facilities and related equipment and machinery. Positions function at the sub-journey level in trades such as carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, painting, or other trades that are less technical and complex. Positions may also perform sub-journey level work in other trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar specializations. Work assignments are routine in nature. Positions assist higher level trades specialists in the completion of non-routine and complex projects. Work is subject to review while in progress and upon completion is given final review to determine compliance with work orders and adherence to established maintenance, repair and/or construction standards.

Some positions in this classification may perform semiskilled work in one moderately complex and/or highly skilled trade in connection with the maintenance and repair of buildings and the associated equipment and machinery. Positions perform tasks ranging from general and routine assignments to those of moderate complexity requiring the application of knowledge and ability acquired from on-the-job training. Guidance and instruction in the principles and techniques involved are provided by a higher level tradesperson, adjusting the degree of supervision given based on the scope and difficulty of the assignment. Work is reviewed in process and upon completion for satisfactory compliance with instructions and work orders and may include other duties as assigned.
