This is professional analytical work in organizing and conducting transportation planning studies and promoting transportation planning activities with local government officials. Employees are responsible for independently conducting studies of a more localized nature which address a specific issue and/or are responsible for a component of a multi-modal systems study with statewide implications under the direction of a higher level planner. Work requires the application of various quantitative and qualitative tools such as surveys, mathematical models, resource allocation techniques, and sampling theories in the analysis of data and information from a variety of sources. For independent assignments, the data and information is generally compatible and special problems are referred to the supervisor. For assignments which relate to a major systems study, a higher level planner reviews analysis and recommendations to determine compatibility with other components. Work requires a general understanding of the various transportation modes and their interrelationships and a thorough understanding of planning concepts and how they relate to the investigation of transportation issues.

Considerable knowledge of analytical planning techniques applied in the collection and analysis of data and information pertaining to transportation issues.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state and local officials.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, engineering, business administration, or economics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in the collection and analysis of economic and social data and information; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
