This is professional level work in planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating social research for behavioral, economic, educational, public health, medical, public policy, sociology, and closely related areas. Work is performed to support research, or to develop, support, or evaluate public programs and policies.
Positions at this level establish goals and objectives of the project/program, set deadlines, plan and assign the work of others, and may manage multiple, concurrent projects and or multifaceted/complex projects/programs. The range of duties includes but is not limited to: designs data/information collection, technology and analysis; designs, develops, and evaluates research methods and quality controls; sets standards for accuracy, validity, and integrity; selects alternative statistical methods and/or software; plans and leads others in analysis; projects probably outcomes, potential impact on policy, research and/or program; reports design alternatives to investigators or upper management; and decides and leads the change in design; co-authors/authors manuscripts, publications, reports, or policies. This level differs from the Social Research Specialist II in the complexity and intricacy of project methodologies, design, and analysis as evidenced in the research project and implications of results.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of methods and techniques used in gathering, editing, analyzing, interpreting and reporting social, educational, or economic information.
Working knowledge of statistical principles and techniques used in collecting, interpreting, and reporting numerical data.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned to the position from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
