Positions in this classification serve as the first line inspector in support of the statewide federally delegated Asbestos Program and the federally authorized Lead-Based Paint Hazard Management Programs. These programs seek to prevent asbestos and lead exposure to the general public, while also minimizing environmental contamination. These positions inspect work sites and help establish work site standards for workers and employers involved in the demolitions, asbestos removals conducted in private, public and commercial buildings, and lead abatement and renovation activities in pre-1978 target housing including child-occupied facilities such as schools and child care centers.
Recruitment Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge associated with asbestos and/or lead based paint.
Ability to walk through a work site and understand the basic process, material flow, general causes, and corrective action for health hazards, as well as the general health effects associated with exposure to hazards.
Ability to write detailed reports that are technically and grammatically correct
Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, physics, industrial hygiene, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or a closed related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in safety, health, or environmental work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
