Class Concept

This is professional journey level work supervising a team investigating and prosecuting major state and federal crimes as members of a task force with Federal and State law enforcement agencies. Position engages in crisis intervention, meeting with stakeholders and team members to provide a swift response to incidents/behaviors. The position is responsible for the assignment of caseloads to the team and ensuring that each team member is fully proficient in all areas. The position manages staff training, administration of the SRG program, developing lesson plans, Emergency Management, and coordination of Federal and local law enforcement assistance. The position serves as the point of contact for all supervised areas and recommends policy input for Special Operations.

Recruitment Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of the methods, procedures, and practices used in the investigation of criminal offenses.
  • Working knowledge of Division field operations, case management policies, the judicial and legal system of NC and local law enforcement policies, procedures, and practices, as well as fugitive operations, anti-crime initiatives and staffing patterns for organizational success.
  • Working knowledge of Adult Corrections, its sections, its operations, probation, parole, and post release.
  • Working knowledge of the judicial and legal system of North Carolina and law enforcement practices and abilities.
  • Knowledge of court procedures, operational procedures of law enforcement agencies and officials, and characteristics of various socio-economic populations and community resources.
  • Ability to present effective court testimony and to apply the principles, techniques, and procedures of modern criminal investigation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain favorable working relationships with other Federal and State law enforcement agencies and officers, as well as co-workers, judicial, community agencies and the general public, as well as offenders and the offenders' families.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to individuals and groups, both orally and in writing.
  • Possession and ability to demonstrate precise analytical and conceptual skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution with a major in criminal justice, correctional services, psychology, social work or other related human services field, and four years of experience as a Probation/Parole Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. Must be able to obtain security clearance and must be able to be sworn in by the partner agency.
