This is professional journey level work investigating and prosecuting major state and federal crimes as a member of a task force with Federal and State law enforcement agencies. Having a dual reporting relationship to both the NC Special Operations and Intelligence Unit and the Federal or State law enforcement agency, the position participates in the detection of crime and enforcement of State/Federal laws. Position performs the full range of professional investigator functions, including planning and conducting extensive investigations, gathering information as appropriate from a variety of sources, making arrests, preparing comprehensive and detailed reports, and presenting effective court testimony. Employees are responsible for locating and gathering information from witnesses, following leads, and evaluating a large and complex amount of evidence. Position will also maintain a caseload of High-Risk absconders and assist in the apprehension and arrest of violent offenders. Work is performed independently.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, procedures, and practices used in the investigation of criminal offenses.
Knowledge of Adult Corrections, its sections, its operations, probation, parole, and post-release.
Knowledge of the judicial and legal system of North Carolina and law enforcement practices and abilities.
Knowledge of court procedures, operational procedures of law enforcement agencies and officials.
Knowledge of criminal behavior, family and group dynamics, intervention, and prevention techniques.
Ability to investigate a variety of criminal cases, to interpret and apply Federal and State criminal laws specifically in investigations, and to make arrests.
Ability to present effective court testimony and to apply the principles, techniques, and procedures of modern criminal investigation.
Ability to establish and maintain favorable working relationships with other Federal and State law enforcement agencies and officers, as well as co-workers, judicial, community agencies and the general public, as well as offenders and the offenders' families.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to individuals and groups, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution with a major in criminal justice, correctional services, psychology, social work or other related human services field, and two years of experience as a Probation/Parole Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
Must be certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
Must be able to obtain security clearance and must be able to be sworn in by the partner agency.
