About Perm to Temp Transfers
The process of transferring an individual from a permanent state government position to a temporary state government position can take a month or more to complete. The exact timeframe depends largely on when the individual leaves permanent employment and begins temporary employment.
When the individual leaves permanent employment, the individual’s former employing agency and the Office of State Controller must ensure that the individual’s final monthly paycheck and deductions successfully clear monthly payroll before the employee can be transferred to the temporary position. Once this occurs, it may be an additional two weeks before the next bi-weekly pay day.
The timing of the individual’s first bi-weekly paycheck for work performed as a temporary will then depend on several factors, such as when the work was performed, when their time entries were approved and the pay date of the pay period in which the work was done.
Individuals transferring from a permanent state government position to a temporary state government position should prepare financially for the time it takes to complete this process.
