Each temporary employee on assignment through Temporary Solutions works for an agency employer, which is a Division or work unit of a state agency, office, or university. Your agency employer determines specifics about your work assignment, such as:

  • When a temporary staffing need exists
  • Who and when to interview, hire, and separate
  • Work location, including whether the position will be on-site, remote, or hybrid
  • Your hourly rate, including any rate adjustments
  • Length of assignment. Temporary employment is limited to 11 consecutive months without an approved exception.
  • Work schedule
  • Your supervisor
  • Equipment and training requirements
  • General workplace rules

Agency employers may conduct reference and/or background checks as part of their recruitment and selection process.

The Role of Temporary Solutions

Temporary Solutions, a program of the NC Office of State Human Resources, provides temporary employment services to North Carolina state government agencies exclusively. We also monitor and report on state agency compliance with temporary employment laws and policies. Temporary Solutions is not the employer of temporaries employed through it.

Temporary Solutions is organized into four Sections: Recruitment, Placement, Employee Data Management (IHRPS) and Finance/Timekeeping.
