The 2016 Wellness & Safety Expo connected thousands of state employees and retirees with community resources that promote a safe and healthy lifestyle.
The event took place today inside the Jim Graham Building at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.
“We want state employees to keep wellness and workplace safety a priority,” said Neal Alexander, Director of the Office of State Human Resources. “We care about their well-being. The expo increases their awareness of workplace hazards, which plays a key role in reducing injuries.”

The 2016 Wellness & Safety Expo provides state government employees and retirees with free health screenings, cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs, and opportunities to learn life-saving skills. The event takes place at the NC State Fairgrounds, on Wednesday, May 11th.
“Supporting veterans in their return to civilian life is important to us,” said Neal Alexander, the state's human resources director. “As they leave the military, we want to make sure they put their talents to use right here in our state.”
“Military troops and veterans are a great asset to the State,” said Neal Alexander, Director of the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR). “They have the skill-sets, experience and discipline needed to excel at these positions and many others.”
“Employers are recognizing the valuable skill-sets and expertise veterans have to offer,” said Neal Alexander, Director of the Office of State Human Resources. “Transitioning military personnel have the knowledge, skills, and abilities that employers are looking for… including state government!”
“We have shortages in many positions, such as nurses and correctional officers,” said Neal Alexander, Director of the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR). “By conducting interviews onsite and making conditional offers, we’re expediting the hiring process to fill much-needed vacancies.”
Jenn McGinnis, Organizational Effectiveness Manager with OSHR, has been invited to be a panelist at the North Carolina Industrial & Organizational Psychologists Spring semi-annual meeting. It takes place Friday, March 18 from 9:00am - 2:30pm at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro.
The 2015 SECC campaign raised $3,760,000 which boosted the total contributions since its inception to over $102 million! Each state agency and university had its own team of volunteer campaign organizers who raised awareness with state employees of the over 1000 charities that are part of the SECC and facilitated collecting the donations.
