First Lady Kristin Cooper, state leaders and other dignitaries, honored 15 state employees who have served North Carolina for 45 years or more during a ceremony at the North Carolina Museum of History.Employees, from across the state and representing several state agencies, were presented with the Caswell Award.

Cooper has appointed Barbara Gibson to direct the Office of State Human Resources to work on behalf of the state’s thousands of employees. Gibson is one of the longest serving state personnel directors and has led the NC Department of Justice Human Resources Department for 16 years.
Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) Interim Director Paula Woodhouse toured the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) in Salemburg and New London earlier this week.
"The students need our help and we want to assist them in getting back on their feet as quickly as possible," said Paula Woodhouse, OSHR's interim director. "So we teamed up with the commission to collect essential school supplies. I was impressed with the amount of donation we received; it shows how supportive state employees are toward their fellow North Carolinians."
At the NC Association of Government Officers annual seminar last week, OSHR’s communications team received first place in the Internal Communications/Employee Engagement category for the 2016 Excellence in Communications Awards for the newsletter The Resource.
Ten state employees were honored with the Richard Caswell Awards, an award presented to state employees who have contributed 45-years of service to the State of North Carolina and its people.
Today, 38 individuals enrolled in the NC Certified Public Manager® Program (CPM) graduated. Their ceremony was held inside the NC Museum of History auditorium.
The 16 state employees being honored have made a positive and noteworthy difference in the areas of customer service, efficiency and innovation, public service, human relations, outstanding state government service and safety and heroism. They were selected out of 118 nominations submitted.
Out of 118 nominations submitted, 16 state employees have been chosen for this year’s prestigious ‘Governor’s Awards for Excellence.’ It is the highest honor a state employee may receive for dedicated service to the State and the people of North Carolina.
“Their passion for public service helps improve the quality of life for those who choose to live, work and raise families in North Carolina,” said Governor McCrory.
The International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) has selected the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) as the 2016 recipient of the IPMA-HR Agency Award for Excellence for large agencies.
