Governor Pat McCrory has signed the $22.3 billion state budget which includes salary increases for North Carolina state government employees, effective July 1, 2016.

“Sec. Perry has done a tremendous job guiding the Leadership Team to reduce workplace injuries in North Carolina State Government,” said Director Alexander. “When Governor McCrory established the Leadership Team in 2013, our goal was to reduce workplace injuries by 10-percent. We’ve exceeded that goal and have had a 14% reduction in workplace injuries since 2013. Under Sec. Skvarla’s leadership we hope to continue that trend.”

A 2-day Military Job Fair is taking place at Fort Bragg next week.

The North Carolina Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) will be working together with Department of Public Safety (DPS) staff in recruiting for correctional officers, nurses and food service officers.

OSHR is leading the way in raising awareness of what it takes to stay safe by encouraging state agencies and universities to sponsor a “Stand Down” in June. Read more from Director Alexander's op-ed in the Goldsboro Daily News.

OSHR Director Neal Alexander has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees.

 We’re now shifting away from across-the-board pay increases to a more strategic, market-driven approach that considers turnover rates, staffing priorities and other factors to determine the salaries needed to recruit and retain competent employees. Read more on this op-ed in the News & Observer.

The 2016 Wellness & Safety Expo connected thousands of state employees and retirees with community resources that promote a safe and healthy lifestyle.

The event took place today inside the Jim Graham Building at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.

State HR Director Neal Alexander added, “We’ve made tremendous progress over the past year in introducing better and more consistent claims management processes and it is starting to pay off.”
