State employees can use up to three days (24 hours) of paid time off to volunteer with their County Board of Elections to help with this fall’s elections, the Office of State Human Resources announced today. 

More than 1,600 state employees used Paid Parental Leave in the first year the benefit became available through an executive order issued by Governor Roy Cooper. Paid time off was extended to birth mothers to recover and to families to bond with a newborn or a child placed through adoption, fostering or other legal placement.

Sixteen state employees with 45 years of public service have been honored with the Richard Caswell Award. The recipients, who work at five state agencies, join the distinguished ranks of long-serving employees who have earned the award since it was established in 1998 in tribute to North Carolina’s first governor.Collectively, the 16 state employees have devoted more than 720 years to public service.

Nine state employees were honored with Governor’s Awards for Excellence today during a ceremony in the N.C. Museum of History. It is the highest honor a state employee may receive for dedicated service to the state and the people of North Carolina and recognizes accomplishments and actions that are outside of the usual scope of their job duties.
