WalkSmartNC will partner with State Capitol Police (SCP) and Raleigh Police Department (RPD) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday to conduct a pedestrian and motorist safety awareness event. A program of the NC Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) that is funded by NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP), a division of the NC Department of Transportation (DOT), WalkSmartNC will promote safety at a high-traffic location in the Downtown State Government Complex during the busy lunchtime period.

The NC Military Spouse Transition Network is available to all identified military spouses working for state government agencies in member states of the National Association of State Personnel Executives. The program is designed to help military spouses moving to or leaving North Carolina access career resources, including resume building, skills translation and informal contacts to support military spouse re-employment.

Five state employees with 45 years of public service have been honored with the 2022 Richard Caswell Award. The recipients, who work at four state agencies, are commended by Governor Roy Cooper and State Human Resources Director Barbara Gibson in a video message recognizing them for joining the distinguished ranks of long-serving employees who have earned the award established in tribute to North Carolina’s first governor.

Participants of the Virtual Career Fair for Individuals with Disabilities (9am-6pm April 13) will have the opportunity to talk with State of North Carolina job recruiters about opportunities across state government.

Designating North Carolina as an Employment First state for individuals with disabilities in 2019 has had a positive impact on how employees are perceived and supported in state government workplaces, according to several state agency and university employees. State of North Carolina Virtual Entry-Level Career Expo for individuals seeking entry-level employment and career opportunities with the State of North Carolina will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 6. Governor Roy Cooper today announced an extension of the policy that allows state employees to use volunteer days to help combat staff shortages in K-12 school districts across the state due to COVID-19. The extension, through April 15, provides an additional 24 hours of Community Service Leave for state employees with supervisor approval to work in North Carolina schools as substitute teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria staff and other needed roles – in addition to the standard 24 hours of volunteer leave provided annually. Thirty-nine state employees from 10 state agencies and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill are recipients of the 2021 Governor’s Awards for Excellence, the highest honor a state employee may receive for dedicated service to the state and the people of North Carolina. The commendations were announced during a virtual online ceremony that may be viewed anytime.
