Employee Assistance Program

Whether you build roads, care for vulnerable children and adults or process unemployment claims, you and the work that you do matter to the people of North Carolina. As your employer, we are committed to helping you perform at your best.

The North Carolina Employee Assistance Program (NC EAP) offers a series of on-demand webinars that touch on topics that effect our employees. We hope you find this resource to be valuable. You can see a complete schedule of past and upcoming webinars below.

2021 EAP Webinar Calendar

What is an Employee Assistance Program?

The State of North Carolina knows that there are times when life and work can be stressful. That’s why we have partnered with McLaughlin Young to provide you with an employee assistance program. The North Carolina Employee Assistance Program (NC EAP) is a state-sponsored benefit program that offers the support and resources you need to address personal or work-related challenges and concerns. Best of all, it’s free for you and members of your household and completely confidential.

What issues does NC EAP address?

NC EAP is designed to help with all kinds of life situations. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • marital difficulties,
  • family problems,
  • parenting,
  • stress,
  • balancing work and family,
  • relationship issues,
  • work-related concerns,
  • depression,
  • alcohol and drug use/abuse,
  • grief and loss counseling,
  • elder care,
  • healthy living, and
  • crisis events.

Who can access NC EAP services?

NC EAP offers you and your immediate household member’s access to:

  • Free, confidential help with personal or work-related concerns
  • Referrals to other sources for assistance
  • 24-hour emergency coverage

Is NC EAP confidential?

Confidentiality is an essential part of the EAP. Your company will not know of your participation in the services nor have access to any information without your consent. The only exceptions are when someone’s safety is in question.

How does NC EAP work?

When you contact NC EAP, you are offered a needs assessment by an experienced, licensed counselor. If it is determined that the concern can be resolved through problem-solving sessions, an employee assistance professional will assist in resolution. If it is determined that a referral is needed for ongoing support, NC EAP will connect you with the most cost-effective resources for care.

How can you access NC EAP services?

Simply call 888-298-3907 or 704-717-5295 to access NC EAP. An employee assistance professional may assess your situation prior to scheduling an appointment to ensure that you are receiving the most appropriate care. Additional information is also available on the McLaughlin Young website.

Why are we making this investment in NC EAP?

First, we care about you and want to improve the quality of life for North Carolina’s state government workforce.  Second, it costs the state more to hire and train a new employee than it does to assist and retain a valued employee. And third, it is a smart business investment. If you are doing well and day-to-day problems are not a distraction, you are more likely to be alert, motivated and industrious and we will have a more productive workforce. It’s that simple!

Please take advantage of these important services. You, state government and our state’s citizens will benefit.
